meis, or with its other name kastellorizo is the tiniest and nearest greek island to the border of turkey. insomuch that, the population that is about 400's in winter increases up to 1000's in summer. the access to the island is through the cuttiest resort town of antalya.. besides, there is not any tour, trip or something cause the island is not big enough. (at least there wasn't any in 2011) it is a one day trip that you can go and return in the same day.

mine was a total unexpected and unplanned trip to meis like my sudden kaş holiday! however, i though i might have a chance to go to meis so, i took my passport with me at the last minute.. and during on our holiday with a group of my friends i said "i'm going to meis today!" and my ipod is on my ear and my camera is in my hand i boarded the boat and passed to the other side of the sea! normally it is required schengen visa for visiting but i easily passed with my special passport without any visa:) special thanks to my dad!

and now, little more about the island; it is pretty silent this side of the sea, the island is tiny and very untouched.. it is easy to walk through and explore the island on foot.. although it takes just 20 minutes boat trip to get the island, you reach to an another the country after all and naturally the language changes too! but, it is really weird to start speaking in english after this short trip:) however, residents provide almost their all needs from kaş and especially their viands. under these cicumstances, they often travel to the other side of the sea, so most of them could speak a little turkish:)

adaya iner inmez karşınıza seramikten mini heykelcikler ve süslemeler karşılıyor, mavi&beyaz&kırmızı tonlarında.. bir bakkaldan su almaya giriyorum ve orada "niko amca" ile tanışıyorum! tek başına gezmenin keyifli yanı işte hemen birlikte bir cafe'ye oturuyoruz ve başlıyoruz muhabbete! süper sosyal ve inanılmaz sıcakkanlı, çok yardımcı oluyor bana, gurur duyarak ve bir turist rehberi edasında anlatıyor adanın geçmişini, gezilecek yerlerini:) kendinden de bahsediyor uzun uzun, adaya adım atar atmaz gördüğümüz seramikleri aslında kendisi yapıyormuş! oldukça detaylı bir kitap yazmış meis hakkında onu gösteriyor.. onun deyimiyle "greek coffee" benim deyimimle "türk kahvesi" içerken ediyoruz bu keyifli sohbeti:)

you see little sculptures and decorations made from ceramic with the blue&white&red tones at the moment stepping on the island.. as soon as i got off the boat i went into a grocery to buy a bottle of water and i met there "uncle niko"! it is the comfortableness of being alone on a trip we sat on a cafe and started to talk! he is super social and warm-blooded, artistic middle-aged man! he was like as a tuorist guide telling me the history of the island and all the places to see:) and he told me about himself too, in fact, the ceramics that i've told above is made by him! he also wrote a very detailed book about his precious island meis.. we made this joyful chatting while having for me "turkish coffee" and for him "greek coffee":)

after, i went back to the point i started, to the center of the island. i sat on a cafe and took my notebook&pen and started to write! i searched and found what i wrote that day, here is some part of it; "...2nd August 2011, Tuesday; houses are blue&white, streets/people are calm, peace, fishing boats, sea foods, greek language, uncle niko:), soft breeze = mediterranean = peace!..."

there were also yachts that edged to the island from all over the world but mostly european.. they are also a great source of income and movement for the island as well as the boats that come to the island everyday from turkey/kaş...

on the way back, i said to goodbye to uncle niko. he invites me to his precious island again or who knows we might see each other in kaş some time:)
